Matthew 6:33  Seek first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness and all these things shall be added.

Okay, you decided to fast.  Maybe you remember testimonies which came out of last year’s time of fasting.  It would be great if you got to be one of those people who had a testimony.  It is true that God rewards those who fast.  But you aren’t fasting for the reward.  If you do, you won’t get the reward.  

Fasting is about becoming stronger in the Lord.  It is true that by becoming stronger in the Lord it will be easier to hear His voice.  And it is true that if you can clearly hear His voice you are more likely to follow the path He has laid out for me.  Wait…aren’t the rewards at the end of His path.  “Seek Him first and then things get added.  That makes sense.

 

Prayer: Lord, during this fasting season, help me to keep my focus on you and not the possible rewards which may come from it.  Help me to seek you above everything else.
