Matthew 4:4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ”
This verse is actually Jesus quoting scripture to defeat the temptation which was coming from Satan. After fasting for a while, Satan came and said, “Dude, you’re the Son of God and you have the power to turn these stones to bread. There’s a stone right there…eat.” But no, Jesus was fasting to accomplish a purpose. His focus was on strengthening His inner-flesh self so that His inner-Spirit self could accomplish God’s will.
Did you know that you have both an inner-flesh self and an inner-spirit self? The capital “S” makes ours a little different from HIs, but the relationship between them is still the same. My inner-flesh needs my inner-spirit to be strong so that I will be able both to hear and follow God’s steps for my life. To accomplish that I need the capitalized Spirit to straighten my not capitalized spirit. But like Jesus, in order to accomplish that, sometimes I need to pull away from the world and focus on Him: the whole Him.
Prayer: Lord, help my time of fasting and prayer to be driven by my desire to have my little “s” spirit become filled with your capital “S” Spirit. Help me to focus for a time everyday on just you: reading your word and listening to your voice,
